Republic F-105D Thunderchief - one of the mainstay aircraft for the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. This aircraft, serial number 24413, was flown by Major Ken Bell, assigned to the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing based at Takhli, Thailand, 1966. FS2002/FS2004 McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II The F-4B is the first real mass production type in Phantom. Finally, 649 was manufactured. In F-4B, the lower side of the nose is equipped with the IRST sensor, and the J79-GE-8 engine with a short exhaust tube is installed. McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom, 74 Squadron, RAF - early 1990's. This aircraft represents an RAF Phantom F-4J 'XV423' of 74 Squadron based at RAF Wattisham, UK. 74 Sqd was re-formed on Phantoms in October 19 1984. The Squadron was fully operational by June 30 and together with 56 Squadron-also at Wattisham-formed part of the UK ADF intercepting Russian aircraft over British air. 74 Squadron was the last RAF unit left operating the Phantom when the type was retired from RAF service and scrapped in the early 1990's. 74 Squadron was then re-formed with BAe Hawks at RAF Valley, marking the end of nearly 3 decades of Phantom service in UK air defence.By: Kazunori Ito/ Anglo-Virtual Aviation www.anglovirtual.4t.com
